Here at Get In 2 Coffee, we like to make fun of Starbucks just as much as everyone else. But they can make it awfully hard. For a corporate giant they often display a real committment to improving the world we live in – even if at the same time they don’t always treat their suppliers as well as one might like.
And Starbucks is at it again, with a smart and worthwhile campaign to get people to try out making a committment to service. They are asking people to pledge to give five hours of time to community service. The campaign to sign people up runs until the end of Sunday and the bottom line is that if you pledge to perform 5 hours of volunteer work they will give you a free coffee. While the free coffee part is the gimmick to tie themselves into the equation, the fact is that just by organizing and getting people to make a commitment they are helping to foster a spirit and community of service and volunteerism – and for that they should be thanked. Congratulations Starbucks!
