A new survey by HealthSavers (link goes to a PDF file of the full survey results) shows that, no surprise, Seattle residents consumed the most coffee among US cities. Interestingly, the main survey is about caffeine intake – and by that measurement Tampa wins. The other common caffeinated beverages in the study are cola and tea.
Anyway, next on the list of coffee consumers after Seattle come Miami, San Francisco, LA and (yes) Tampa. Least coffee consumed in St. Louis, San Bernardono/Riverside, Houston, Phoenix and Detroit. (What did everyone in the LA area who hated coffee move to San Bernardino/Riverside?)
Skipping past the abomination that is cola, we come to tea. Top tea drinkers in order: New York, Tampa, Baltimore, Boston, Atlanta. I thought they threw tea in the Harbor in Boston?
Bottom tea drinkers: Minneapolis/St.Paul, Miami, San Francisco, Detroit, Seattle. I see a correlation between liking coffee and not liking tea here. Coffee clearly rules the roost in Seattle, San Francisco and Miami.

Hi!
I see that you’ve discussed Starbucks fairly extensively on your blog, including posting about the “coffee wars” between Starbucks and Caribou. As a result, I thought you might like to be one of the first to know about the national launch of McDonald’s new McCafé line of coffees–the newest entrant to the coffee wars. To celebrate the Company’s most significant product launch in more than 30 years, McDonald’s wants to invite you and your readers to enter for a chance to win a $50,000 Visa® Gift card and other prizes through an online contest and sweepstakes at http://www.mcdonalds.com/mccafe.
Let McCafé make your day – You and your readers are invited to submit a story and photo about why you or someone you know deserve a chance to be one of two grand prize winners, each taking home a $50,000 Visa Gift card and a $500 McDonald’s Arch Card. The contest ends on June 21, and you don’t have to buy anything to enter or win. For official rules and to learn more, visit http://www.mcdonalds.com/mccafe.
McDonald’s McCafé beverages include espresso-based coffees such as Cappuccinos, Lattes, Mochas, Iced Lattes and Iced Mochas, as well as hot and iced Premium Roast brewed coffees and hot chocolate. McCafé Coffees are available at participating locations, with more McDonald’s restaurants to be added throughout 2009.
Are you interested in sharing this opportunity with your readers? I’d be happy to answer any questions you have about McCafé or the contest and sweepstakes.
Thanks,
Abbey
P.S. If you’ve gotten into this Twitter craze at all, you can now find McCafé on Twitter by following Jessie Thompson, a manager of U.S. Communications at McDonald’s, at @McCafeYourDay (http://www.twitter.com/mccafeyourday), where Jessie will be listening and responding to customers’ conversations and questions about McCafé, while keeping them posted on the “McCafé Your Day” Contest and Sweepstakes.
