In another piece of news about the health benefits of coffee, a Danish study shows that subjects who had reported drinking three to five cups of coffee daily were 65 percent less likely to have developed dementia, compared with those who drank two cups or less.
We do wish that the study reports had included the amount of coffee that a cup was described as. Probably about the usual coffee cup size, somewhere in the 10oz. to 12oz. range.
The study authors speculate a little on the reasons for the effect, for example, earlier studies have linked coffee consumption with a decreased risk of type 2 diabetes, which in turn has been associated with a greater risk of dementia. But since this was a properly controlled study of over 1400 people, the results are undeniable.
